This doorway, with solid artificial curtains, is an odd thing to find on London’s Drury Lane. The reds and golds reminded me of the extravagantly-decorated restaurant at the end of the road, but then I noticed the name over the door!

Funeral parlour!

Gothic style doorway on Drury Lane, London, March 2021
But it’s ok, just the weird sense of humour of the owners of the Sarastro restaurant – this is the staff entrance and office. Let’s just hope it’s not also the customer exit!

Love the humour in that name. It’s a very theatrical looking door. Is there a theatre on Drury Lane?

Well, I’d rather go happy if I have to go at all –

Oh my gosh! This is such an ornate prank on passerbys; and so in keeping with the restaurant’s theming (I oogled at the Google images).

Well… I will have to find this one if and when I get back to London!

I think you need to check it out sometime and then tell us more. In the meantime, what a cool and quirky find! I do like a sense of humor and the owners seem to have one.

I certainly will. But not for a while. I’m not sure when I’ll want to go inside a crowded restaurant. Last year I restricted myself to outdoor eating. But I’ll report back once I’ve tried it

I’m with you on that, even though many people here don’t seem to be bothered by indoor dining.

I’ve eaten there a few times. The food is OK but the atmosphere is great and it does attract some very odd characters. Worth it for a fun evening if you don’t want fine-dining and like a giggle with your waiter. And you can go there alone as there is one long table with singles can sit and join other people.

Thank goodness there are still folks with humor 🙂

Haha I like the design but I don’t know if I will try it!

I think you’d have to try it. I mean, as long as it’s not a funeral parlor 😏
It’s an amazing entrance. Thanks for sharing it for Thursday Doors.

That is a great name pity it’s not a Funeral Parlour 😀

Eat here and die? Surely not …?

I might try it out one day – it looks and sounds unusual: over the top decoration and opera singing by local performers. Not much is said about the food!

Hmm. Maybe a bit more research needed 😉
