Black vanilla ice cream, Marseille, August 2023
Black vanilla.
How did I not discover this before!
Vanilla ice cream is not expected to black, but Marseille’s black vanilla ice cream is simply wonderful – vanilla with a salty edge. And the vanille noire shop offers plenty of other great flavours too.

Deliciously unexpected indeed!
I’ve only had Blue Pea Vanilla, but nothing close to Black Vanilla! I do like sweeties with a salty edge though, so this sounds delightful! I assume it tastes nothing like squid-ink pasta!

No, much as I like squid ink, I didn’t detect it in my ice cream

I agree with spoilsport Elke but it sounds divine Debbie. The Kangaroo on the towel was unexpected 🙂

The contents of the black ice cream may be unexpected too. Theres definitely the vanilla pods themselves, plus sone activated charcoal, and rumours of squid ink!

I would even like a hint of aniseed 🙂

Such a beautiful yellow and loved the child’s reflection in the window. That ice cream’s got to mess with your head, black and vanilla, gotta try it! https://alondonmiscellany.wordpress.com/2023/09/03/unexpected/

I hope it tasted good, I’ve never seen it before.

Is the icecream actually black? Because vanilla is, of course, itself black. …
Yeah, I know, spoilsport. I am. Just told somebody else that a dark yellow colour of egg yolks says nothing about the quality of the eggs.

Yes. It’s very black. I went there twice but both times I ate it before I remembered I should have taken a photo!

Great photo, identifying clearly The Place to Be in Marseille. I’ll enjoy looking at the Orange contributions over coffee-without-ice-cream later.

Im intrigued – how is it black? Food colouring? But the salty edge sounds delicious. Now I must find something unexpected for my post! Have a great Sunday 🙂

Besides the paradox of black vanilla, you also have other colors in the shot. Made me smile. 🙂

Ah yes, I loved the red towel (with a kangaroo on it)
And they did have other flavours / colours of ice cream too. But the black vanilla was delicious!
