For me the harrowing part is the banality of it all. It’s not demonic, no blood curdling screams and dripping blood. Just bureaucracy with heartless, cold rules. And the perpetrators thought they were doing good, were bettering mankind, paving the way for a better future.

We visited the Stasi HQ in Leipzig – harrowing but also a fascinating insight into those times. I imagine this would be much the same?

No, I’ve not read that – I’ll look out for it. We were in Leipzig in late 2018 (October I think). A shame if it’s closed, it was an excellent museum.
