On one of the local online groups in Virginia, someone asked where they could get drive-through ashes. Apparently, that is an actual thing.

How strange. As sustainabilitea said, those who attend Mass here have their foreheads marked with a cross of ash which they wear all day. This looks a bit like a marketplace event :)

This is the people from the Cathedral bringing the crosses of ash to the people who don’t go to church.

Oh right. I wonder what the unbelievers think of it :)

A bit weird or what 🤔

I found it very strange, I have to say. But it goes back to its origins, I guess, when people performed acts of penance in public.
It was also a strange combination on the calendar this year, with Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent coinciding with jollity, chocolates and alcohol on Valentine’s Day.

I guess so, I forgot about penance. I would ask where the ash came from first though.
Hedonism wins every time. Churches and religious stuff is for photographing 😁

We always get ashes on our foreheads in church shortly before leaving. I’ve not seen this sort of thing before.

I think because not so many go to church these days, they try to bring it out to the streets.

Makes sense.

Eh? What’s that about? A spoonful of ash for all believers?

Exactly. I’ve never seen its happen out on the streets before, but I think it’s a regular event in St Albans
