I’ve got so unused to seeing people smoking, that seeing it so popular still in so many places abroad comes as quite a shock. But this shop’s glory days are over.

Same here. It is still bad in Japan, and I had to use that old technique go hanging clothes in fresh air to get rid off the smell after a night out.

Now-a-days I could see that just being lifted onto the back of a truck and stolen with the cigarettes inside

great timing given the smoking debate that is currently ‘raging’ in some quarters in the UK

It is still very popular over there, but I saw they just increased taxes which may have some effect.
