Poznan’s Hotel Merkury opened in 1964, an early example of communist luxury. This striking example of socialist modernism was heavily inspired by Western post-war modernism, most notably the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

Yes. I enjoyed all of my stops on this trip. But my favourites were Krakow and Wroclaw.

Ah, just 2 days ago I was trying to remember the name Poznan 😄, as the place I had planned to go right before Covid and then had to cancel 😕. The hotel looks imposing. My inspired entry here:

It’s definitely worth a visit if you get another opportunity. I had been there in 1980 so it was great to see it in a revitalised and flourishing state.
