Gare de Bruxelles-Nord, Brussels, June 2026

I had admired this clock tower as I went through the Gare Nord station on my way to Antwerp. On my way back I just had to jump off to take a look at this striking piece of post-war modernism (built in 1952).
Now over to all of you. Do come and join us in our Saturday six-word musings.
I’ll admit that many of us openly break the numeric rule and share far more words (all excellent of course!) so the key rule is to have a title of six words – and then create around that the post that you desire! Perhaps in bunches of 6 words if you’re feeling inspired.
To join the challenge, please put a link in your post to the URL of this post. Then come back here and leave us a comment. If you have any problems with linking, just put your own URL into the comment. And do feel free to socialise digitally with the hashtags #SixWordSaturday and #6WS. You’ll find me on Instagram @travel_travel_with_intent and @dsmythphoto

Trains are so convenient in Belgium. Easy to hop on and off when there are so many. That train station in Antwerp was worth the ticket price!!

It is quite something and worth getting off for.

Oh yes, that’s a great bit of architecture!

Ha ha! You read my mind, David. I nearly changed it to become my Sunday tall post as I was lacking inspiration but then I thought of something else.

Great example of a modernist structure for a railway station. Inside must have been amazing.

Not really. But I had plants of station glamour in Antwerp

Well, we were in Bruxelles-Midi recently. No time to enjoy architecture. Instead we had to deal with the fall-out from being unlucky travellers on the shambles Deutsche Bahn has become. Bruxelles Nord looks more interesting!

Yes, I certainly wouldn’t call Midi attractive. But a brilliant hub if the trains run! I actually stayed at Midi (in hotel not on the platform) on my last trip as the tram links from there are pretty good.
I’d heard Deitsche Bahn had a lot of issues but it’s never impacted me. 🤞

Lucky you. They were an utter nightmare. It was enough to say ‘DB’ at the Eurostar Info desk when we’d comprehensively missed our connection for them to require no further explanation. And the train info board at Hamburg showed a long list of trains (cancelled) or trains (delayed) or in our case, both!
