The Bay of Naples is 15 km wide, large for a bay. It is also known as the Gulf of Naples which grants more recognition of its size. It has Naples to its North, Mount Vesuvius to its East and Sorrento to the South.
Its claims to fame apart from the spectacular views are hosting the sailing events for the 1960 Rome Summer Olympics and, more impressively, the bridge of boats across which Caligula is said to have ridden on his chariot.
