Speed the Ride was my favourite of the Las Vegas roller coasters. I was sad, therefore, to learn of its closure, along with the Sahara Hotel itself, in 2011.
Then there followed some good news – plans to dismantle it and move it to the other end of the strip, where it would be remodelled to operate again at the Akita Plaza. There was talk of it opening this year (2013) but it seems that all has gone quiet. You can watch for news here. Unless anyone reading this has an update?

It’s always sad to see favorite places close, like losing a friend almost.

My husband was just up in LV for a trade show. He said the old strip just feels sad now.
I don’t know if I would have ridden it, but everything is certainly changing up there rapidly.
I’m glad you got to experience it, though, and I thank you for sharing it with us.
Up and visiting a few R links today.
Thought I’d stop by and give you a great, big A+

I am with you! Stayed at the Sahara many times…always inexpensive and cheerful and that roller-coaster was a fun addition. Hope new plans for it work out.

Vegas is such a fun place. I haven’t been in years, but remember lots of good times there. – Margy

Don’t think it’s a ride that I would be very interested in taking. Kate, ABCTeam

Last time I was in Las Vegas there were just coming soon signs where the famous casino used to be.
I guess the economy tanked and things were put on hold.

Love the sepia effect. It looks like a scene from a ’30s movie.

Not an effect I normally use but seemed appropriate for this one.
