…well, fairly early!
It is wonderful to see the sun in London, but the tube becomes unbearable in the heat. The buses aren’t much better, though you can at least get off when the heat becomes too much to bear.
In summer, I would never travel on the tube without a bottle of water, but a kind friend pointed out that when trapped in a sweltering carriage, being the only person carrying water was a surer means of death than dehydration. I have since added a surreptitious straw to my handbag!
Whenever possible I eschew all overheated transport means and use Shanks’s pony. Early last week I had a meeting near St Paul’s so took the scenic route along the river. It is so pleasant along there first thing in the morning. The Eye hadn’t yet started for the day so no long queues there, and the boat in the photo below was one of the very few operating yet.

Incidentally, I walked back later and it took twice as long as the outward trip as I had to dodge the throngs of people.
My top tips, then, for summer visitors to London, are get up early and use your feet. And carry your camera!

If it is really hot then it is better to get the bus but that is London for you and we don’t really get that much heat here compared to other countries

good advice for the tube and for Florida in general. During the summer I get up early and get out before the heat & humidity melts me.

We don’t have to worry as much as you. We don’t get the same sort of heat.

You are so right. The tube is no place to be in the heat of the Summer.

I walked just about everywhere in London rather than travel on the tube – there was too much to see. 😀

Yes, you miss so much when you’re underground. And you don’t get a feel for how everything fits together.

It’s always lovely to travel short distances over the water. I hope it doesn’t get too hot for you there this summer!

Unusual view of the Thames. Good to see a different perspective of it.

I have found in the last few years that the centre of London is fairly easy to walk around and a much better option (unless it’s belting with rain…) now I have got my bearings!
