Old York in Orange

aDSC05923c4boostlomo

I have featured this flash of orange outside York Minster before, but in honour of Mandarin Orange Monday’s 101th anniversary, I am repeating it with some post-processing.

The orangeness is all the more appropriate given that York was the original home of Terry’s Chocolate Orange.  When Frank and Noel Terry joined the family business, Terry’s of York, in 1923 they revamped the company, opening the Art Deco-style factory The Chocolate Works in 1926 and launching the now famous Chocolate Orange in 1931.  The Terry factory in York closed in 2005 and since then chocolate oranges have been made in Poland.

  1. One does not expect to see Buddhist monks in front of a Christian house of worship. Be that as it may, you shot a wonderful image with eye-popping color/contrast, and food for thought as well.

  3. I remember the smell of chocolate permeated the air in York when I was there many years ago. Perhaps some of it was from the Terry factory. 🙂
