These beautiful door handles, featuring Pegasus, adorn the main doors of the National and University Library in Ljubljana.
This library was established in 1774 but has undergone a number of changes and expansions. It has long been a legal deposit library for Slovenia, but in 1921 it took legal deposits from the whole of Yugoslavia, resulting in a rich collection of works.
No surprise then that it has outgrown its previous homes. Plans for a new building were created by Jože Plečnik and the resulting new building was erected between 1936 and 1941. Modelled on an Italian palazzo, it is considered to be one of Plečnik ‘s greatest works.

These are wonderful door knobs. Although on a cold day I would want gloves. 🙂
