-Look Up, Look Down Challenge, Week 98
Every Thursday, I publish a post containing photos taken from above or below, and invite you to join in the challenge by posting your own images with an up or down perspective.

I am in Singapore at the moment, on holiday with my daughter, who is on her way to Sri Lanka where she’ll be working on a voluntary mental health placement for 6 weeks. Singapore is all about looking up and looking down, so I just had to use it for this week’s challenge.
Today’s visit to the Gardens by the Bay was very impressive and the Supertrees there just had to be this week’s topic. There are 18 of these “trees” in the gardens, 12 of which are grouped together in a grove and are the ones featured in this post. These concrete and steel structures vary in height, from 25 to 50 metres. They are effectively vertical gardens, covered in a variety of plants, including bromeliads, orchids and ferns.
You don’t have to be content with gazing up at the trees from below; there is a 128-metre long walkway that curves between two of the supertrees in the grove.
Running at a height of 22-metres above ground, it provides an up-close view of the trees and also some good views of the surrounding gardens, and beyond.
11 of the 18 supertrees are fitted with photovoltaic cells to harvest solar energy, which makes their night-time light show self sustaining. I’m hoping to get to the gardens in the evening in which case I’ll share some close up nighttime shots with you when I return home.

Extraordinary garden, but I can’t focus after reading what your daughter is up to. Good luck to her! (BTW, I thought she was much younger 🙂 )

Absolutely fantastic, Debs! There’s a fine line between good innovation and over the top (ha! ha!) but these are wonderful. I was just thinking how amazing they’d be to walk at night. Just got to wait for the shots now 🙂 🙂

I was a bit nervous about the walkway as I’m not good with heights. But it was fine. A fantastic idea.

Very interesting and creative what Singapore is doing. The first photo looks very other worldly.
