Apple Takes Over Selfridges Windows

Selfridges on London’s Oxford Street is renowned for its stunning window displays; I have featured them a few times in the past.  In fact, these extravaganzas date back to March 1909, when the store recreated scenes from paintings by Watteau and Fragonard.

The current display is a first.  For the very first time, every one of its 24 windows is dedicated to the chosen product.

“What could that product be?”, I hear you ask. What could demand such attention?

The answer is Apple Watch. This watch come fitness monitor come weather station come sat nav crosses so many technologies and retail categories that Apple have chosen to widen their reach by opening some Apple stores within other stores. Selfridges is one of these select host stores and the collaboration has extended to these spectacular window displays.

The windows feature eight different types of flowers, all taken from the Watch’s Motion faces.  Chrysanthemums, gardenias, yellow poppies, dahlias, peonies and more have been hand-sculpted by artists and reproduced using perspex, cast resin and 3D printing.

There are 24 large, 50 medium and over 5,000 small flowers, ranging in size from 20cm to 1.8 metres.  Some have even escaped the windows and are creeping across the surrounding walls.

If you want to catch a glimpse of this floral celebration you have until 13 October.

  1. I totally bypass the featuring of the watches and admire all the floral displays.

I used to work in Central London and seeing the Selfridge window displays was always fun – I particularly love the Christmas displays.

    • I wasn’t interested in the watch either! I’m assuming this finishes in October to make way for the Christmas displays – I wonder what delights they have in store this year.

  3. I have absolute zilch interest in the watch, but I love those window displays, especially the passionflower and the dahlia. You got some good images here Debbie 🙂
