Black and White Pfudl

I didn’t have time to try out the hospitality at this attractive looking hostelry but I did stop long enough to catch a shot of those tremendous lamps.

The “Pfudl” has a history of serving authentic Austrian cooking dating back to at least 1900 (the history not the food!).  However, the current owners have been researching the background and the Pfudl family history, and it seems their their ties to food and drink, may well date back to the arrival in Vienna in 1529 of a 10-year old boy named Rudi Pfudl.  He fled his home in Lower Austria as the troops of Sultan Süleyman I approached and went on to help defend Vienna as a spotter.  Rudi then appears to have made use of his family-ties by bringing wine from his home town of Mailberg in Lower Austria to Vienna.
