Pink Flamingo

Flamingo in the Camargue, South France, May 2015

I thought it was time I featured a flamingo in the Crayola colour series.  We looked at Pink Flamingo a while ago but it was way to bright for this fellow.  The colour of flamingos varies according to their diet, and though I’ve seen photos of some very bright ones, the ones I’ve seen in person in the South of France and in Kenya have been more pale pink than magenta.

A colourful note:  salmon joined the Crayola crayon band as a new shade in 1949.

This colour is named after the colour of salmon flesh and its first recorded use in English was in 1776. Whether you think this crayon makes an accurate match for the fish, will depend on the kind of salmon you are familiar with: the real shade varies from almost white to deep pink, depending on how rich a diet of krill and shrimp that fish has eaten, and what artificial colouring may have been added if it is  from a fish farm.

  1. Hi Debbie, it just occurred to me that you might not know I started a challenge a month ago called SEASONS, where anything or any experience during the season is great stuff to link. (I really don’t mind if you use a photo already used for another challenge)

The thumbnail link is open Mon-Wed, till 7pm, US, Pacific time
Hopefully you’re still asleep right now, but you will still have plenty of time before it closes. Click on the red “click here” on the bottom of the post to enter. Hope to see you there:)
