In 1976, a lot of the fire hydrants in my New Jersey town were painted with red-white-and-blue designs in honor of the 200th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Your photo brought that back to my mind.
once in town they had a fire-plug decorating contest…strict rules as to colors etc…a lot of red/white/blue…it was fun, the painted ones lasted a long time (not the plug, the paint LOL)
