These snails were crawling exceedingly slowly around the grounds of the Heydar Aliyev Centre in Baku. Snails can actually crawl around 25 metres in 24 hours, but these giant creatures just didn’t seem up to it.

Their bright colours actually make me suspect they were connected with recent tests into the homing instinct of snails.  A variety of garden snails selected for the trial were painted in a variety of colours before being dragged away from their home bush territory. Once left to their own devices overnight they headed back home with slow determination. These giant fellows in Baku probably wouldn’t have contributed to the success of that research.
