Clockwork Orange

Clockwork Orange mural in Shoreditch, London, April 2019

Street artist, Zabou, had longed to create a mural on the topic of Clockwork Orange, and jumped at the opportunity to create a large work on the exterior wall of Village Underground in Shoreditch.

Her work is cleverly designed to be “double-faced”, showing two aspects of the story. On the left

On the left, we see Alex (played by Malcolm McDowell) with a glass of milk; on the right he is undergoing treatment, wearing the distinctive medical head piece. The two halves are subtly separated by a glitch effect.

  1. Cleverly done and massive too. I remember when the film came out but I was too young to watch it. Thanks for contributing Debbie.

  2. I love Clockwork Orange (like Angloswiss I saw it early on and read the book, more than once I admit) and so I love this mural. Very well executed AND a clever concept. It’s such an iconic movie, the pictures of Alex are instantly recognisable. I’ve even been to a Halloween party once dressed like him!

  3. And Shoreditch (grew up in Bethal Green) is the right place for such a mural. It is looking really good. I saw the film when it arrived in the cinema in the early seventies and also read the book. Both of them excellent works.
