A summer treat since 1958

Here in the UK, we had our sunniest April on record this year, with a damper and greyer May on forecast. But, yesterday, the sun surprised us and Mr Whippy was ready to help us enjoy.

In the grounds of St Albans Cathedral, Hertfordshire, May 2020

Mr Whippy is a popular summer sight, having made his first appearance in vans in the UK in 1958. The brand merged with Wall’s in 1964, but the name will seen be seen and heard all over the country, in fact all over the world, with the word used as general term for soft ice cream.

And a spot of Mr Whippy music from Australia:

  1. Mr. Whippy is new to me. Do you know if he has traveled to the USA? Good thinking, never would have thought of the lot of hands with the ice cream! Ah, 1959 – we are only 10 years apart:):) Apart from the ice cream, hope you had some diversion at this scene. Many thanks for sharing it with All Seasons, Jesh

    • Well, I heard he was Mister Whippy in the States, and maybe Mister Softee.
Yes, I had a lovely walk and sat on a bench for a zoom chat with a few UK bloggers. In the sun! I didn’t think you’d be too far ahead of me, Jesh 🙂 In fact you’re younger than my big sister Have a good week!
