  1. I don’t know many bird names but the black headed weaver birds are amongst the ones I know – they abound in the Kruger National Park in South Africa. They are beautiful, gregarious and so easy to observe (even for non-birders like me) if one has found a tree where they are building nests. But what I like best about them is that the male builds the nest on his own, it’s part of his courtship ritual and he is in competition with the other males. His chosen mate then comes and inspects the propsed living quarters and if she doesn’t like it she rips it to pieces. And he has to start all over again … (I’m sure that most of you know this but I thought I mention it anyway).
