During recent renovations the cafe was sited out here temporarily and I think the benches and tables are leftovers.

It is indeed. It’s a wonderful Cathedral with amazing medieval wall paintings inside. But what a shame to have lost the cloisters – a place I always enjoy exploring.

It’s a side of the cathedral that I walk past several times a week and had never really thought about what the marks were. And then, this weekend, I studied a plan and realised the immense size of this complex of buildings in its hey day, with cloisters, dormitories, houses, stables, …..
