Blobitecture at Selfridges, Birmingham, March 2021
Blob architecture, better known now as blobitecture , has been a popular design style since the 1990s. It refers to the overall curvaceous, blob-like shape. The Birmingham Selfridges store is classic blobitecture. Apparently, the shapely design was intended to evoke the female silhouette clothed in a famous “chainmail” dress designed by Paco Rabanne in the 1960s.

Interesting architecture, it reminds me at the plastic bubbles that are use as packaging material 🙂

There is a definite similarity. And it looks as though some of it has been popped!

I always wondered why it was like that when I was in Birmingham… I just thought they were being quirky!

I only discovered the term recently – I love the blobitecture term and thought it was a joke at first
