A dog drinking fountain in Kensington Gardens, London, November 2022
This bronze sculpture by Silvia Gilley was erected in 1961 in memory of Esmé Saville Percy (1887–1957), an English actor, manager and producer, who also loved dogs.
Percy appeared in many plays by George Bernard Shaw. In fact, Shaw wrote the role of Count Aristide Karpathy in Pygmalion specifically for him. He lost an eye in a light-hearted encounter with a Great Dane, yet still loved dogs. And the replacement glass eye added to his fame, when it fell out and rolled across the stage during a West End performance of the drama The Lady’s Not for Burning. After his death, his friends arranged for this sculpture to be created and placed in Kensington Gardens.

Our Buster is rather strange… when out and about he refuses to drink from bowls, etc of water….. but give him a muddy puddle and he thinks it nectar (I should add we try to spot potential puddles before he does and take a diversion) 🙃🤭

It’s amazing how much they like muddy flavours, and sometimes worse! Inka is quite a keen water drinker, but he likes to drink the water as it pours, not already in a bowl! And he certainly doesn’t share!! Though he’ll happily share a puddle 🙂

Amazing what tales are out there to be found. I found it hard to find out about the fountain, but many people wanted to tell about the glass eye.

I know sometimes it takes ages to find out about a mural or statue
