Just a few weeks ago I showed some previous street art in Arles. Here is this summer’s piece on the same wall.

Bonjour!!
Best regards.

I’m amazed at how quickly that street art changed on that building. Seems you just get used to one mural, then another is added in its place. Stunning how different each is, Debbie.

The street art here is paste up so that hot doesn’t damage the ancient walls, so it soon peels off when rain and the mistral take hold.

Don’t recall any street art in Arles, but unlikely given that it was 40+ years ago!

Yes, and I think it is very much related to Rencontres, so depends if you were there when Rencontres was on.

We visited Arles in 2017 with my daughter’s in-laws who live in Marseille. Nice mural, goes very well with the old buildings. Thanks for participating in Monday Murals Debbie.

Ah yes, a great trip from Marseille. I love Marseille and spent a few days there after Arles this year.

Street art of all types is fascinating because it’s so ephemeral. It’s the nature of street art to disappear one way or another, and I think we should embrace that. Even commissioned murals may decay or fall victim to rebuilding around them or even be the target of amateur graffiti makers. I like your sequence showing the variations on this site, which seem to be taking place for positive reasons.

Another spot I’ve always wanted to visit. We’re in Toulouse for a week in October but I won’t be able to persuade himself to venture that far.

Oh, Toulouse is another beauty. I keep meaning to get back there – haven’t been for getting on for 40 years!
Arles is a bit of a distance for a day trip (3 hours on train) or I’d have suggested positioning him at a comfy bar and making a dash for it 🙂 Definitely worth keeping on your list, Jo – if you get there July-September the photo festival is on and you don’t need to be a photography fanatic to enjoy the many exhibitions from around the world.

Thanks, Debs! Any tips on Toulouse? I planned it as a Canal du Midi trip for my 75th- groan!- but miseriguts doesn’t want to drive a boat.

Oh, miseriguts indeed. Canal do Midi is on my list too!
I’m afraid I can’t suggest anything for Toulouse – I was there for work and don’t remember anything specific.
I know Timothy West and Prunella Scales did the Canal du Midi on their Great Canal Journeys series 2. Not sure if they showed anything of Toulouse but maybe the program could tempt miseriguts onto a boat!

A wall to keep returning to then.

Indeed. And it’s close to the Ancient Theatre and Amphitheatre for something a bit older!
