I remember when many new British homes had divides like this too!

We had one between lounge and dining room but I fell through it at one of my birthday parties! Party ended early as I bled everywhere from a cut on my forehead. Scar still there 🤕 The divider was kept open after that

yikes!!! Guess they were first installed before the invention of safety glass. Glad it didn’t end up more serious
