The strength of the indigenous

Newen by Visual
Winetavern Street, Belfast, image taken February 2025

This mural is by Colombian artist, Visual. He created it as part of the ‘Hit the North’ Festival in 2018 as a tribute to the indigenous peoples, symbolizing strength and energy. The  vibrant colours used were inspired by the Wiphala, a square emblem commonly used as a flag to represent native peoples of the Andes.

    • It was one of many walls now covered in street art in Belfast and I don’t have a wider shot, I’m afraid. But I’ll be sharing more from Belfast in the coming weeks and I’ll have more context for them
