Sagrada Familia, Barcelona, May 2017
Construction of the Sagrada Família commenced in 1882 under architect Francisco Paula de Villar. In 1883, Gaudí took over as chief architect and devoted himself to the project until his death in 1926. At that point, less than a quarter of the project was complete and work has halted and resumed a few times since.
It is now anticipated that the building will be completed by 2026, the centenary of Gaudí’s death.
Modern technology has made construction after than in Gaudí’s days, and changes can be seen over the last decade (2006 and 2017 shown below)
In some areas the covers have been removed and final touches are being added:

I will continue to watch its development with fascination and admiration.

My daughter visited this last year when on a work visit to Barcelona. She took photos of the exterior and interior just with her phone and they were amazing. This is a place that is on my bucket list.

Although I had wandered around the outside a few times, I ventured inside for the first time last year. It is amazing!

Barcelona is such a lovely city. Where were you standing to take this shot Debbie? I think 2026 will be a VERY busy year. Might need to book a room a few years in advance!

When I visited it there was only one man working on it and I thought that must be why its taken so long to finish.
