I usually feature independent coffee shops in this section, but today I’m featuring my local Caffè Nero.
My internet speed at home can be compared unfavourably to that of a very slow tortoise who takes many a nap, so I spend a lot of time working and blogging over a coffee and a cake in this friendly cafe.
Of the main coffee chains, Nero’s is my favourite: the coffee is strong, and most stores produce fresh pastries every morning. The one nearest to me is exceptionally friendly, they know the regulars by name along with their preferred drinks. Service is personal, jovial and efficient.

In the morning I go for a warm, fresh pastry, in the afternoon it’s the turn of caramel shortcake, which I always bisect before eating; I kid myself I’ll only eat half but then I eat it all!

Indeed.
With A level results and uni places out later this week, I may have to sit outside a closed cafe to get the required speed. Now that is a sacrifice!
