-Look Up, Look Down Challenge, Week 20

Open space and fresh air can be hard to find in a city, but Barcelona makes great use of its balconies and roof terraces. Look up and you will see that almost every building has a terrace on the roof.
Ever wondered what goes on up there?
Well, this year, the giant crib scene, or pessebre, in Plaça de Sant Jaume is dedicated to roof terraces – a gift for this Look Up post. Crib scenes are on display all around town, but the giant scene here is always my favourite. This year’s modern theme has all the detail I have come to expect, including, of course, the caganer. You’ll spot Santa climbing onto terraces, women doing the washing, children playing, people tending their garden, a little boy feeding his Tio de Nadal and even a man fishing.
The cribs are a great Christmas attraction. They are normally free to enter, though the ones in churches and the Cathedral always appreciate a donation. They are in place until 6 January so you still have time to take a peek.

Not too worry, who cares about a little thing like a number! I ran the last challenge (week 19) for 2 weeks and left people to enter twice against that one challenge if they wanted. Sorry, I didn’t think about altering the numbering to reflect the gap! You could call your next one week 20 again or week 20 part 2? Debbie

Great captures! Haven’t been to Barcelona, but to Malaga, in the South of Spain on our honeymoon, which later I discovered was where Picasso was born. Happy New Year to you!

Ah yes, Malaga is another beautiful Spanish town. The Picasso museum there is excellent. And there’s more sun than in Barcelona!
