First Impressions – Copenhagen

I arrived in Copenhagen on a flight from Luton with Easyjet.  There was a fair bit of turbulence en route, but we left on time and arrived on time so no complaints there.

The walk from the plane was another matter.  I seemed to walk for miles.  When I finally reached the baggage hall, the screen told me 11 minutes on carousel 2.  Now, silly me, I thought it meant the bags would arrive in 11 minutes, not that it would take me 11 minutes to walk to this distant carousel;  I assume this remote area of the baggage hall is reserved for the likes of Easyjet and other budget airlines.

By the time I was reunited with my bag I was pretty sure I was in Sweden  – I had certainly walked far enough to have crossed the border!

At this stage, I could have hopped on a train to the Central Station, but I was feeling lazy after only 2 hours sleep the night before, and I wasn’t sure how far my hotel was from the station, so I grabbed a taxi.  The taxis here are plentiful and you can pay in Danish krone, or on card (though there is a surcharge) or a few taxis take Euros and dollars.  The taxis even have free wifi; I have to say, this is a welcome first for me.

My hotel turned out to be a mere stone’s throw from the stunning Central Station.

The Andersen Hotel is a fairly new addition to the boutique hotel  offerings in Copenhagen.  The service at check-in was excellent, they found me a room immediately so that I could unpack even though I had arrived several hours before official check in time, and they informed me that they had free wine on offer in wine hour every evening.  My room was light and bright, with comfy bed and rooftop views.

With a free day ahead of me before work the following day, I dumped my bags, put valuables in the safe and set off to explore.  Would the city live up to my expectations?

  1. I hate airports. At least our local airport is so small that it is only a matter of less than a minute to walk to the baggage area and only a small wait for them as well. Have fun

  2. I’m curious too, I know Copenhagen pretty well; be careful crossing a street, no car or bicycle would stop for a pedestrian 🙂

  3. Crikey, thanks for the warning about distances – if I fly to Copenhagen, I will need assistance! I find Gatwick bad enough these days…..
