Iceland, September 2018
Let’s go for a quick drive around a country with open space galore. In a year of confinement and isolation for most of us, these views of freedom and unity with our surroundings are more welcome than ever.

The open expanses of Iceland provide a great opportunity to play with the concept of negative space in the images, though days of rolling clouds, storms and rainbows can negate that plan. Some of these images also work well in black and white, so here’s a quick slideshow to give a colder, slightly more isolated, feel.

Definitely looks colder in B&W, one reason I imagine they use color there. It’s lovely, but I’m thinking a tree or two would be a welcome sight. 🙂

The red roof against the blue sky is absolutely stunning. It didn’t work for me in black and white but in colour, wow………!

Love this collection of photographs. It inspired me to think the thought, “where are is the church in each one (it is where we are). ❤️🦋🌀🙏

Thanks Jez. A wonderful place. But not sure how much I’d like to live there in the dark of winter.

Vast empty spaces and colourful structures… great place indeed to photograph !!
You have chosen the right theme here, negative space and the second image is just amazing for it’s composition …
Thank you for sharing, Debbie 🙂

Thanks for you lovely comment Sreejith. I love using negative space but I think you need a calm mind to be able to do it and that’s hard in our busy lives.

Both colour and b/w work well. But I need colour in my world right now, so I’ll stay with the more vibrant images.

I felt like that too, Margaret. I had been planning an entirely b&w post but it desperately needed colour.
