We don’t always see it, and we certainly don’t always recognise it as symmetry, but it is out there. We can find it in nature, in art, in architecture, in mathematics, in music, in science; it can be bilateral, spiral, rotational, chiral, reflection, similar, cylindrical; it is everywhere.
But let’s not get technical, let’s just enjoy it and share it. I should add that we certainly don’t always capture the full symmetry of things in our images: the composition rule of thirds discourages us, and seeking an unusual point of view sometimes means we miss the more simple form and beauty.
Let’s pop to Berlin for a bit of symmetrical enjoyment. Here on Karl-Marx-Allee, I was surrounded by some very solid and geometrically symmetric architecture.

Sometimes the symmetry holds together a much larger entity than a single building. Here the towers are visible from quite a distance and add cohesion and certainty to this main street.
And sometimes I like to find my own view of symmetry, and what better than a reflection to provide that.

I particularly like the last shot. Those leaves centre stage quite humanise it.

And this one of the good things about me always being late doing my editing. If I had edited straight after the visit I might not have given it such a natural look (i’d have probably been focusing more on sore feet, petrol fumes, noise, cold, …..)

I was trying to work on a project on Socialist architecture – Berlin and Moldova had been down for returns this year – maybe next year
That aside, I love Berlin – so much to see and do.

There are some wonderful examples of Futurist architecture in Italy…similar lines of thought/philosophy.😀

Yes, partly the autumn weather, partly the post-war socialist architecture. These were built by GDR in late 1950s. And I think my editing has emphasised that look.
