It’s Friday, and time for a flashback to an old Travel with Intent post. Let’s pop back to a 2018 post about some old street art, created in 2014 as part of a project to celebrate the writings of some Portuguese women writers.

This wordy and watery tree is the work of Portuguese street artist João Maurício, aka Violant. It was painted as part of the 2014 Passeio Literário da Graça project that celebrates the works of a number of Portuguese women writers.
This piece depicts a tree-come-book on which we see some verses by Florbela Espana (1894 – 1930), a Portuguese poet know for her erotic and feminist literary history. It was painted on a wall close to the street where the author once lived. Violant named his mural Brainstorm, but it became better known locally as Tree of Knowledge.
Sadly, this lovely mural is no longer there, but some of the other pieces from the literary project are, including a tribute to Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen

Wow! This is a celebratory tree indeed! It is too bad that it is no longer there – the oftentimes transciemce of street art.

Yes. They were doing work on the wall when I first found it – and I assume redevelopment saw the end of it in the end. I had a look for it on my last visit, but couldn’t remember exactly which building it had been on.
