I loved it – it was a gentle ride with great views. And the sun obliged for the last 10 minutes or so. I thought my vertigo head mighty find the height difficult, but it was fine. I fact the only hard bit was climbing in and out of the basket!
Yes the first shot was preparation – some just about ready to go and that one still being inflated. The second shot was one that had set off. We went to watch inflation and then followed their route to get some good shots of them flying.
This area was volcano land and the terrain is now soft – volcanic ash, pumice, etc. – that is easily shaped by wind and rain into often phallic shapes, often with some harder rock perched on top.

I like that you got one balloon in the process of inflating (I think) and the shapes in the second shot are a bit like upside down balloons.

It must be great to fly in a balloon over Cappadocia. I one did it here in Belgium and it was also fun to do.
