A Brighton shop window
The cute knitted seagulls in this Brighton shop window look harmless enough, but the same can’t be said of their real-life cousins.
Smaller birds live, justifiably, in fear (look away now if you’re squeamish!):
If you live near the coast you need special rubbish bags:

Rubbish in Broadstairs
They supposedly spread disease, and they are certainly a nuisance when present in close proximity, whether they are dive-bombing to grab food, or just silently crapping on your head. Us humans have come up with numerous methods of deterring the creatures – water sprays, owl eyes, sheepdogs (gulldogs?), birds of prey, spikes, electric shock, … – but when it comes down to it, it is our way of life that attracts them. Our rubbish and leftover food is their delight.
Despite all that though, I do like to hear the cry of seagulls in the near distance as it generally tells me I’m close to the sea and I do love to be beside the seaside.

I got a quick shot of sea air on New Year’s day but the weather was so bad the gulls seemed quiet. Didn’t stop them trying to grab my fish and chips though!

I like to hear the cry of seagulls too. It reminds me of salt water and the ocean. {sigh} {:-Deb

Interesting trivia – we have sea gulls here in UT – they live by the Great Salt Lake. I do love the way they sound…

Yes, I like the sound because it makes me think of the sea

I can’t believe they eat live birds! This is why they need their french fries 🙂

They will also attack you if you come too near their nest at breeding time. My father-in-law received a nasty gash on his heard not so many years ago.

I shall remember that. I wouldn’t want one of those beaks too close to me!

Once we were sitting in the harbour of a small Cornish seaside resort. We were enjoying lunch when suddenly a gull came and grabbed a big part of one’s sandwich! The woman who lost her lunch was not happy.
Have a great week.

They sure can dive-bomb one for food and bomb one besides. Great choice for the letter G.

I like Seagulls even though they can be pests. If they are clean looking they are pretty birds. I must admit those ones in the window are fun and way less of a pest then the real thing.
