Shadow on the Foundation Stone of the Central Library in Manchester

The foundation stone of the current library building was laid by the Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald in 1930.  Building works took four years and the building was finally opened by King George V on 17 July 1934.

Eighty years on and this magnificent building has undergone a major renovation and is now open again.
