A colourful note: turquoise blue was a new shade for Crayola back in 1935.

Turquoise is named after a gem of the same name, a gem that was originally imported from Turkey. No surprise then, that the word turquoise comes from the French for Turkish.

The first recorded use of turquoise as a colour name in English dates back to 1573.

  1. A great shot of this Icon Volkswagen. We had a camper Volkswagen many years ago. We loved traveling in it with our children. Love the color and the history of Crayola’s year to bring us turquoise to color with. Thanks for sharing this photo with Blue Monday.
I am sorry my comment is late. We were out of town and I ran out of time on Monday to visit everyone.
    Happy Blue Monday,
    Jeanne

    • Ah, you went for two bright, cheerful contrasts. Probably tells us something about your character 😀
