Started at dawn. All of the masks were up early – and us photographers too! They took a break midday but were back out in a variety of locations in the afternoon and through sunset.
They do all this for the pleasure of designing and making costumes, and then displaying them at Carnival. And they love to receive photos in return.
I thought I had been very selective on this trip but I still came back with 2000 images. It was my first time using flash and I really thought I’d struggle to find decent shots on my camera – I was pleasantly surprised!
When I get organised I’m going to put them in a gallery on the blog so they’ll all be together!
You could do this workshop and take your daughter along as companion! The wife of the workshop leader usually dresses up and models but didn’t this year due to too much travelling to plan their future trips! They are close friends with many of the masked models so you get to chat with them on the day trip to Burano. Perhaps a treat for a next big birthday

Not like I feared. I had avoided it previously, and now I’ll definitely return
