-Look Up, Look Down Challenge, Week 62

This week, I’m sharing the views from my visit earlier this week to see the poppies at the Tower of London.
The Tower is now encircled by a mass of ceramic red poppies, with one poppy for every British and Commonwealth military fatality during World War 1.
This incredible art installation, Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red, marks one hundred years since the first full day of Britain’s involvement in the First World War.
888,246 ceramic poppies sweep down the walls and fill the moat below.
The shiny, red poppies have been created by ceramic artist Paul Cummins and his team of potters, using techniques which were utilised by potters during the First World War. The overall setting has been designed by Tom Piper.
They are on display until Remembrance Day, 11 November, and will then be delivered to the thousands that have rushed to buy them.

This poppy display must be a wonder for those who have fought in wars and a photographer’s dream. Gorgeous photos.

Indeed. I don’t know how long they took to make, but the poppies have been installed gradually over the last few months.
