After reading the poem, I jolted at the reveal this is in Belfast. So many years of mutual hatred to what end? Quite stirring on so many levels. Thanks for contributing to this week’s Monday Mural.
I was shocked at the continued existence of a strong split. I did a taxi tour of the more obvious areas later that day. They are an even stronger example of your comment!

Irrespective of the political implications/ramifications, I like the mural as an art form and it is very well photographed – well done!
Not letting go has its price, but so does non-acceptance.

All those murals in Belfast with their political meaning and commemorating the Troubles. Perhaps it is better when all murals disappear here for a few years and then come back in the more colorful and free way of the others on this blog.
I used to live about 5 minutes from where this photo was taken. I was back visiting family at Christmas last year and had such mixed feelings…there were beautiful murals like this but right next to them were still the 20 foot tall paintings of men in balaclavas pointing guns.

This city is so traumatized, it made me very sad to see all those murals remembering the violent times. They can’t let it go and look to the future.

I was shocked on this visit. Still a wall. Still locked at night. Still very sectarian murals and attitudes

I have photos of all the other murals from 2007, not sure if I have posted them. Didn’t see this one though.
